Great Sites to learn the States and Capitals!

Sheppard Software  CommentsThis is the best website I have found for learning the placement of the states and the capitals only because you can limit it to a part of the US.  You get a few extra states but at least not the whole US.

QuizletComments: This site allows you to make electronic flash cards. It flashes “one side” and you fill in the other…great for helping them learn to spell the states and capitals (because they have to type them correctly), as well as, the capital or the abbreviation.   Hint: make two sets. One for capitals and one for abbreviations or you will have to differentiate in some way which is the correct answer when it gives you South Carolina.

For our Teachers

This is the website for the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives. It is broken down by upper and lower elementary into the five areas of math. There are numerous skills-based activities for students to do with the virtual manipulatives.

Here is a great website for powerpoints. You can click on any subject area and find great powerpoints on most of your standards.  You may just need to modify them slightly to fit your specific grade level. Can be used during whole class instruction and as centers for review.  Many of the Math powerpoints on this site are interactive. There are also PE, Art, Drama, and Music powerpoints for Special Area teachers.
