Each year James B. Edwards Elementary
holds a Science Fair for
students in grades 1 - 5. The purpose of the Fair is to motivate
each
student to explore the world of science and to provide an opportunity
for
students to experience using the scientific process. Students in grades
1-4 can enter
a
project from one of four categories - experiment, model, collection, or
observation. Beginning in 2008 students in grade 5 will be
completing only experiments. They can enter experiments in 1 of 3
categories: Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth/Space
Science. First, second, and third place ribbons are given in each
category. Honorable Mention ribbons are also awarded to those projects
that were exemplary ( 1st and 2nd grades projects will be given
participation ribbons only). After the Science Fair has been
held,
winning projects can be viewed in
our Media Center. The winning projects are then judged again and
a
"Best in Show" winner is announed. Students, parents, and
teachers
enjoy looking over the hundreds of entries at the Science Fair Open
House.
