Lesson Plans  for each grade level  are related to the Standards for Art .

Students engage in many different "hands on " activities.
Every grade level is challenged with activities

appropriate for their age.

Art Exhibits

Art is exhibited throughout the school in the hallways, office, media center, and cafeteria  all during the year. Different grades are featured each month.

  Units of Study

Projects often are related to units of study in the classroom. Tropical Rain Forest Birds are created by fourth graders when they study about rain forests in Social Studies. Third graders make Catawba Indian pottery with their study of S.C. Indians. Fifth Graders create an Iroquois Indian mask when they study Iroquois Indians. These are just a few examples.

Artist in Residence

We have a different Artist visit our school each year for a week to work with one grade level each day for one hour to introduce a form of Art. We've had Visual Artists, Musicans, Creative Writers, etc.

The students learned how people long ago made rugs, cloth, bedspreads, etc. right in their own homes since there were no factories. They created a wall hanging to display in the media center with objects they brought in to weave on the 200 year old loom.
Artist in Residence, Emily Hyatt, a fiber artist, visited the second- fifth grade art classes.
Here you see Mrs. Hyatt weaving
with two students.

Art Sale

Every May during our May Day Festival we have an  Art Sale. Students make tissue flowershand painted pins , and hand painted cups that reflect the  theme for the year. These items are sold for $1.00 each. The cups are filled with lemonade to serve to the visitors at the festival.

(The money collected helps pay for the materials used
and for supplies for the next year.
)

These fifth grade students  are painting a mural
in the new 5th Grade Pod.
