Models of Services: Pull-out and Inclusion
Two models of service are available at James B. Edwards Elementary.
The pull-out model is used primarily in kindergarten thru third grade.
The resource student receives individualized or small group instruction
from the resource or compensatory education teacher in a small group setting.
Either reading, writing, or math instruction is taught during a fifty minute
period each school day, depending on the objectives that written for each
student in an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Academic skills
are taught on the student's instructional level until he reaches a specified
mastery level that is indicated in his program.
In addition to the pull-out model, a collaborative model is used mainly in fourth and fifth grades. The resource or compensatory education teacher goes into a resource student's regular classroom for a fifty minute period each school day. The teachers work collaboratively as a team in facilitating the instruction of the resource teacher.
