Summer Reading

Summer reading is an important part of the development of reading skills learned during the school year and the preparation for the next grade level. The goal of our summer reading program is for each child to incorporate reading into his or her daily summer schedule.

The following lists represent a wide range of reading levels and are intended as a starting point for selecting books for your child. The Charleston County Public Library is an excellent source for quality books, both fiction and non-fiction. www.ccpl.org

Please give your child the opportunity to select his or her own books and encourage daily reading as a lifelong habit.

Visit the family link at www.lexile.com for specific books that fit your child's reading ability based on information generated by this year's MAP testing. Your child's teacher has more information about Lexile scores.

James B. Edwards Media Center provides a searchable Accelerated Reader list - a great way to find specific books by author, reading level or subject that your child will be able to read.
